Chapter 7 Discussion Questions:
1 1. Provide essential detail, help give stories
spirit and atmosphere, and impart vital spontaneity. Part of the Interviewers,
function is to gather facts, but an equivalent obligation is to reveal the
person being interviewed.
2 2. Cooperation, establish a rapport, and you’ll
have to be open enough to let people come know and trust you.
3 3. Leave the chewing the gum at home, and refrain
from sitting unless you are invited. Be friendly but no over-familiar.
4 5. Retain control of every interview, focus on
familiar work and surroundings than if they forced to focus on themselves,
their appearance or their performance during the interview. Remember not to ask
for or suggest action unless the person already routinely performs the activity
in your absence.
5 6. To help preserve the spontaneity, try not to
share questions in the advance of the interview. Because they ordinarily put
most of their energy in the first response.
8 8.The more you know the source, the more
confidence you give the person and the more you can concentrate on listening
without having to worry about the next question.
7 11. Bad body language

Discussion Questions: Chapter 6
1. The types of microphones that are used to cover news events are handheld, lavaliere, and a shotgun mic. The strength of the handheld are they are rugged, reliable and affordable and can record anything. The weakness is reporters push them into peoples faces. The lavaliere strength is it can be taped to someones chest and can be hidden from the cameras. Their weakness is the output can become less vibrant and more tinny the farther they are used from the sound source. The strength of the shotgun mic is it allows usuable quality sound to be recorded from quite a distance in a perfectly quiet enviroment.
6. Some of the important considerations in concealing the miniature mic are if the speaker wears a low cut blouse or sweater, fasten the microphone right under the lapel or neck band with a safety pin or a small piece of gaffer's tape. Also if the person wears casual clothing, a jogging outfit or will be active, use safety pins and tape to hold the microphone and cable in place.
7. The most important considerations to follow to achieve good quality sound in the field are experiment with microphone placement, monitor recording levels, and monitor sound with earphones.
8. It is essential for the photojournalist to constantly monitor sound to determine whether field recordings are clean and free of dropouts and distortion.
9. Some of the techniques to reduce wind noise is putting some acoustic foam on a mic, putting the mic under the subjects clothes, repositioning the subjects with their back to the wind and inserting a high pass or low cut filter in a mic.
13. Good sound is compelling, involing, and engaging. Good sound builds on prior experience that viewers themselves bring to the screen. When we hear sounds on television that imitate or draw from our own life experiences, we are able to contribute to the story a more profound and intimate depth of understanding.

Discussion Questions: 101-102
1. Color Temperature- lighting sources is measured according to a scale of degrees Kelvin (K) indicates the proportion of red to blue light the light source radiates. The scenes will be either too green or blue (at color temperatures above 3200 K) or red to orange (at color temperatures below 3200 K)
3. Camera Mounted Filters: mounted in front of camera lens
Light Mounted Filters: optical glass filters positioned directly on light
Window Mounted Filters: mounted directly on windows and normally used to change the temperature
6. Key-light: replicate the look and feel of available light, almost all artificial lighting setups have one dominant light source
Fill Light: secondary light source set to produce illumination approximately one-fourth to one-half as intense as key light
11. 5600 K
13. Most news conference has three light setup. setup key and fill lights and add a back light to help separate the subject from the background. Keep lights 7 to 8 ft away from the subject.

Green Screen Pics
Green Screening, is a special effects and post-production technique for layering two pictures or video streams together based on color hues, also known as the chroma range. The technique has been used heavily in many fields to remove a background from the subject of a photo or video, particularly news casting and motion pictures.

Discussion Questions 1-5 Chapter 2 pg 52
1. Visual Grammar are the rules that govern the visual reconstruction of event, including the raw material shot and recorded in the field and the process of editing the material for broadcast. A journalist must be able to break simple action into its complex parts for later reconstruction at the editing bench.
2. The three basic shots in motion picture photography are the long, medium, and close up shot. The long shot also known as the wide shot provides a full view of the subject. The medium shot brings subject matter closer to the viewer and begins to isolate it from the overall environment. The close up isolates the subject entirely from its surrounding environment.
3.An example of how the three shots come together to provide continuity or consecutiveness is walking into a airport. When you first walk in you see the crowds of passengers and long rows of ticket counters (long shots). Next you use medium and close up shots as you inspect the airport. For instance if you are looking for a TV monitor that displays flight departure information you would use these shots to find it. Once you found it, you might walk up to the monitor and use a close up view to read it.
4. The different camera angles and the length of the report are considerations of when a shot or image size of a subject should be changed.
5. It is important to have action in virtually every scene because it is the strength of film and television. In TV news the goal is to incorporate movement in every scene.

FreeThrow Steps
1
Remember BEEF
- Keep your Balance. First off every shooter has a different routine when they step up to the free throw line, whether it is two dribbles or no dribbles at all. However, every good shooter begins with balance, there is always a nail at the middle of the free throw line, find the nail or dot and line your shooting foot up with it and be on balance this is the B in BEEF, BALANCE.
- Keep your Elbow straight. After you have your balance, have your elbow on your shooting hand line up to make an L right under the ball. Make sure your fingers are spread to insure backspin.
- Focus your Eyes on the rim. Keep your eyes on the back of the rim, so you are basically looking through the net. Aim for the back of the rim.
3
Pay attention where you put your shooting hand leg. That means, if you are right-handed, line up your right foot exactly even with the basket right on the line. Vice versa for left handers. This will improve your free throw dramatically.
4
Set your feet shoulder width apart.

Flashback to the '90s
When it comes down to the sneakers I like or like to wear, I usually go for the original sneaker or a sneaker that is slightly different which blends with my creativity. When I wear sneakers I look for a couple of things, such as the structure of the shoe, the materials in which the shoe is made up of, the comfort of the shoe and most importantly how the sneaker looks on foot.
There are certain sneakers I call the "holy grails". The reason why is because of how rare the sneaker is, and if it's in a good condition the sneaker can be worth a lot of money. Another reason why they're called grails is because how old the sneaker is. Some collectors have sneakers that were produced dating back to the early '80s and some may have the first original or "OG" `version of the sneaker.
Sneakernews is my go to site for the latest update on sneakers and fashion
